Your next Amazon package might be getting delivered by a drone and the package will drop with a parachute, according to CNN. Although this may seem rather exciting to many, there still may be some technical issues regarding drone deliveries. The first challenge is putting the package on the ground.
Well, it is a possibility that deliveries can turn out successful, depending on the location. For instance, it might be a lot of environmental hazards around such animals, people, etc. In other words, deliveries can be successful as long if the drone is flying in a small suburban area. A big city, like New York, however, is still uncertain.
In regards to CNN, the patent suggests that Amazon should complete the deliveries from the air. The drone can watch from above, and then adjust the packages landing with a parachute, a burst of compressed air, or some other type of tech tool.
A delivery already had taken place in Cambridge, UK. However, this delivery had taken place in a small populated area. In addition, a lot of Amazon users more than likely, do not live in small areas. So, it would be extremely beneficial to them if they make this delivery system available for everyone.
Amazon also had another weird patent pertaining to the sky. They were also thinking about floating warehouses (think “blimp” motherships). They are supposedly hubs that deploy drones that are short range. But this was just an idea, nothing more.
Bottom line, Amazon may want to get the drone idea up and running, as soon as possible. An unlikely competitor, 7 –Eleven, has completed close to 100 aerial deliveries. 7-Eleven made a partnership with Flirty, a drone delivery service. As of row, 7-Eleven only deliver in the state of Nevada. They will expand their services next 2018 though.
