Questions are coming to a head on what should be the plan on Gun Control and how to handle the violence that is becoming the modern lifestyle. Other countries are talking like America is plagued by guns because the U.S. will not make a move to remove them from our soil.
In today’s times guns that are being held by the worst society has to offer kill more than 80 lives each day. That in just a year alone, more than 30,000 are killed by gun violence. Breaking it down that means that about every 16 minutes someone is being shot and killed.
In the last four years there have been more deaths from guns than those who have died in the wars in Korea, Afghanistan, Iraq and Vietnam combined.
What is needed is more research on what could possibly be the best solution. The problem is that back in 1996 the NRA did accuse the CDC of being an advocate for promoting gun control. This led to some Republicans saying that they would cut funding to the CDC. So what else can the Center for Disease Control and Prevention can do, but back down from the NRA and bow down.
“None of the funds made available for injury prevention and control at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention may be used to advocate or promote gun control.” Per the Dickey Amendment. So what that means is that the CDC will not do any gun studies. That would include other government agencies wanting to perform studies. So this would also include the National Institute of Justice and the U.S. Department of Justice.
President Obama has taken to action to fix the CDC ban almost three years ago, but does not seem like anyone from the CDC is brave enough to test the waters. What is crazy that there is research on everything from suicide, what politicians do in their spare time. To research on illness and what causes what but really there is nothing to do with guns and gun side effects mentally that it causes. Yet the bill for gun violence seems to never pass.
Will there be hope for change some think so and even on the Republican side of the party. One Republican Paul Ryan seems to think so and is a gun owner. Ryan states “Some of this is motivated to do things that we don’t think are good policy,” Ryan also stated. “What is the best way to spend taxpayers’ dollars? What is the best way to spend our dollars on research?…If your stomach isn’t turned when you see these violent acts on TV, there is something wrong with you. The question is can we reasonably, can we calmly, look at this, see the common themes and address these things without violating a citizen’s rights?”
The facts remain that, by denying our smartest researchers to try to find a solution to this terror of a problem just does not make sense in the end. Just make others in the U.S. Think that money will buy you whatever you want in the end. Even lowing the standards to break the amendments being violated when really that is not what the U.S. is about in the end.
