Siri and Alexis better look out: Today Google has made their AI, Google Assistant available to more mobile devices, that run Android 7.0 Nougat and Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It was announced during its hardware event in October 2016. It’s an AI assistant that’s a little different from its predecessor, Google Now. It’s more personal and has more of a personal tone.
Last week, was when the rollout was announced, however, Google released a video letting the public know that it’s more accessible now.
Despite the great news about Google Assistant being available to multiple devices, there is still a downside, unfortunately. Google didn’t stress which devices will get Google Assistant.
For some phones, they may already have an update provided by Google Play services that contain the new feature. Assistant can make lists, book reservations, and answer follow-up questions. Apple’s Siri struggles with rolling out these features.
Initially, Google Assistant was only going to be available for Google phones, Google Pixel and Pixel XL, to be exact. These phones were used to sell the new feature. But they had a change of heart. They were thinking more than likely, opening the market to more phones, so they could bring in more revenue. Months later the AI started making a migration onto Android phones.
The feature will first be available in the U.S, then Australia, UK, and Germany, Google confirmed in a press release.
Google also stated that Assistant will be available on the following phones: Samsung, Sony, HTC, and Huawei devices. They were also showing renders of Google Assistant on the Samsung Galaxy S7, LG V20 and HTC 10, so there is a possibility Assistant will be on these phones as well. Google also showed this feature on some of these phones at Mobile World Congress.
