Comedian Louis C.K. has reportedly landed an exclusive two comedy special deal with Netflix. Variety has learned that the two specials will be titled “2017” and filmed in Washington D.C.
The Louis C.K. comedy specials are allegedly set to premiere globally on Netflix on April 4th.
C.K. is not a stranger to streaming his content online. Recently he released his special “Live from the Beacon Theater” in 2011. He released his 2011 comedy special on his own website for 5 dollars.
While having a few specials on Netflix, the two-part “2017” special will be C.K.’s first Netflix original.
His latest comedy series, Horace and Pete was distributed through his louisck.net website. After the first season run, Hulu picked up the syndication streaming rights for the show.
Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s chief content officer, commented that Louis has been one of the most innovative stand-up voices in this era. Sarandos commented that they are thrilled to bring in his creativity and comedic business to Netflix.
Netflix has been handing out a lot of money for top comedians in the entertainment business recently. With Netflix increasing their comedy slot since 2014, the streaming service picked up Chris Rock’s specials for 40 million dollars.
The streaming service has also picked up comedy specials for Amy Schumer which is set to arrive this March. Dave Chappelle also has three comedy specials coming to Netflix this year.
Louis C.K. reportedly has a full schedule this coming year. The comedian is allegedly serving as the main voice actor and executive producer for TBS’s The Cops.
The TBS series was co-created by C.K. and Al Brooks. The Cops was also created under his Pig Newton production company.
The comedian also serves as an executive producer for FX’s Baskets and Better Things. Although his hit series Louie has become a cult classic, the comedian commented he is not likely to bring back the series anytime soon.
