Palm Springs has been getting a lot of attention in the last few days. People have been looking at the city to see if authorities would be able to apprehend any suspects that relate to the shooting of 2 police officers. Reports are showing that it looks as if someone has finally been caught. CNN is reporting that police have arrested a suspect in relation to the recent shooting in Palm Springs.
The news of the arrest emerged on Sunday night. CNN is reporting that a 26-year-old man by the name of John Felix has been arrested for allegedly shooting two officers (one male and one female). Officials are also stating that the shooting took place after both officers tried to reason with a distraught man from behind closed doors. In the midst of the attempted negotiations, the officers were shot at from behind the door. The shooting resulted in the death of both officers.
The two officers shot were rushed to a nearby hospital where they died from their injuries. CNN is reporting that one officer by the name of Jose Gilbert Vega was 63 years old and due to retire this year. The other officer was new to the force. 27-year-old Lesley Zernby was a new mother and still very new to the police force. No statements have been released from the families from either officer affected, but the Chief of the Palm Spring Police Department spoke at a recent press conference where he sent his condolences to the families of both officers.
Incidents that result in the loss of anyone’s life are always unfortunate. Hopefully, the person responsible will be brought to justice and the families of the officers that lost their lives will be able to recover. One can only wonder how the people of California will handle the issue as the story continues to develop.
