As the use of the internet is increasing day by day due to its fascinating benefits and social connectivity cyber crimes are also increasing through it. Most of the people using the internet might not be aware of some disadvantages of the internet that it is one of the reasons responsible for crimes all over the globe. We are so used to of internet and social media that we do not even think once before providing our personal information over the internet to any website. Thus, we increase the chance of getting into trouble like cyber crime.

You might not know that the crucial information that you are providing to any website can cause a problem for you. This crucial information includes your email address, contact number, passwords, address, location, etc. There are many websites that are not secure, and we just ignore this thing and put our information. But you should never do that. You should think about every aspect that is it good for you whether you are downloading or uploading something to the internet.

Just by using some precautions and tips you can use the internet safely and protect yourself from any cyber crime.

  1. Do not share your personal information:

For whatever reason you require to provide your personal information over the internet, you must be very careful. Whether you are shopping online, purchasing any ebook, downloading the movie or filling out the registration form of any website, you should always check first whether that website is secure or not. Without checking out all the aspects you should not provide your personal information anywhere.

  1. Keep changing your passwords:

Always try to keep changing your passwords. Do not keep the same passwords for different accounts. Also, avoid the “remember password” or “remember me” option in order to stay safe from any kind of hacking activities. Try to keep your passwords complex that cannot be hacked easily.

  1. Use only secure websites:

You might have noticed that there are two types of websites. One is in which “https” is added in the URL and in the other there is only “HTTP”. In HTTPS, ‘S’ represents secure. It means that the website is secure and is having proper SSL (Secure Socket Layer) Certificate. The website which does not have SSL certificate uses the only HTTP. Therefore, you should avoid using non-https websites and providing any information to such websites.

  1. Avoid clicking popup advertisements:

It happens to everyone that we are surfing something useful over the internet, and we suddenly get interrupted by pop-up ads. These ads can be sometimes useful for you ,but sometimes they can be harmful to you and your computer or device. These ads contain malware or virus and thus they can harm your system or device. So you should avoid clicking on such pop-up ads.

  1. Use a Firewall:

Using a firewall is a good practice in order to keep your network secure. A firewall acts as an electronic barrier that blocks all the unauthorized access to your computer or device. Using the firewall ensures that the devices connected to your network are secure. Thus, it helps your network from any hacking activity.
