Bill Cosby’s name has once again come up in the national circuit. The cause this time, Kristina Ruehli, a 72-year-old woman from New Hampshire, has made the decision to withdraw her civil defamation lawsuit against Bill Cosby. Ruehli previously said that Bill Cosby raped her in 1965.
In the lawsuit, Ruehli states that, while working at a Los Angeles talent agency at age 22, she met Bill Cosby and was invited to his home. Once there, she received two drinks from the comedian, passed out and awoke naked in Cosby’s bed, where he attempted to force Ruehli to perform sexual acts.
Megan Deluhery, Kristina Ruehli’s lawyer, gave the reasoning for the withdrawal as the legal landscape shifting since the case originated back in November. She shared the following quote:
“Ms. Ruehli is 72 and her husband just celebrated his 79th birthday She will watch the pending cases proceed in solidarity with other survivors, those known and unknown, while returning her focus, if she can, on her daily life and trying to put behind her all the pain this ordeal has caused her.”
This is the second case against Cosby to be dismissed this year, with Cosby’s legal team hoping more are to come. This has been a long legal battle for Cosby, with his legal team earning their money.
It is important to note, however, that Kristina Ruehli filed to dismiss without prejudice, which means she could refile the lawsuit later if she so chooses. She argues that Cosby ruined her image and wrongly accused her of lying after coming forward with the allegations of rape.
This is certainly not the last time we will hear of Bill Cosby’s legal battles, and they are likely to in fact be only beginning. We will have the latest news in this case as it occurs.
