There is another Smurfs remake in the works and the title is “Get Smurfy.” The film is going to be completely CGI-animated versus the previous Smurfs movies where there was animation along with live action. Probably a better way to go about this reboot, and it will make it stand out from the other movies.
The cast is going to include Demi Lovato, Mandy Patinkin and Rainn Wilson to play some of the more recognized characters. Lovato will be voicing Smurfette, Patinkin will voice Papa Smurf, and Wilson will voice the villain, Gargamel.
The president of Sony Pictures Animation, Kristine Belson, said
“We have gathered a group of filmmakers and artists who have grown up with these loveable characters, and ‘Get Smurfy’ will be imbued with the same spirit of adventure that first made all of us lifelong fans of these little blue guys…and girl.”
The film will also go more into the Smurf’s past and why there is only one girl. Finally! This reboot will be produced by Kelly Asbury, who was behind Shrek 2 and “Gnomeo & Juliet,” as well as Mary Ellen Bauder. Asbury has said
“The continued popularity of the Smurfs is unmistakeable, and this new outing will return them to the fully animated world that launched them.”
