Antonio Brown is a lot of things. He is a Pittsburgh Steeler, a 6-time Pro-Bowler, and now he is a cover athlete. That’s right; AB has been chosen to be on the cover of EA Sport’s Madden 19 video game.

Brown spoke briefly about how much it means for him to be the cover athlete of the game he grew up playing:

“It’s extremely an honor to be a part of something so special. As a kid, coming together with my friends playing the game, looking forward to this game. Every year, every summer, to know that I’m on the cover is such an inspiration for me, the Steelers organization, the Steelers fans. I think everyone is extremely excited—I’m just grateful. Now, business is boomin’, but to be one of the great players around the league, representing my team, our fans for the EA game on Madden, that’s everything.”

As one of the best wide receivers in the NFL, Brown is undoubtedly deserving of this honor. Last season, he led all of football in receiving yards and was named First Team All-Pro as a unanimous selection. Not to mention the fact that he was ranked the best wide receiver in the NFL Top 100 Players of 2018 list, and ranked second overall trailing only 3-time MVP, Tom Brady.

In recognition of his fantastic play, Antonio Brown was also gifted with a 99 overall in the game, one of only seven players to receive the highest possible rating. He was thrilled to learn that he will be one of the best players in Madden 19, saying that:

“It’s an honor. Not only to be in the 99 Club with some elite guys but to be on the cover along with that. Finding out that news was extremely exciting, it really made me feel good,” Brown said. “Great people around the world witnessing what you’re doing and encouraged by what you’re doing. I’m inspired, not only business is booming, but it feels great that other people recognize me as one of the greatest players in the NFL.”

There is still the question of whether or not AB can keep up his dominance with the looming “Madden Curse” that comes with the honor of being on the cover. However, AB is unphased by the myth and assures his fans he’s not worried. “You gotta stay focused,” said Brown. Obviously this is a tremendous honor, you can’t get caught up in worrying about what others believe. I’m extremely focused and excited to be in everyone’s household, to let them see me in my Steelers uniform representing my club.”

The video game will be available for purchase as early as August 10th.
