With Art Basel Miami Beach 2017 now in the books, what better time to go over some of our most highlight-worthy elements of the highly-lauded show. Taking place every December in (you guessed it) Miami, Florida, Art Basel Miami Beach is a personal favorite for those of us here at Rush Hour Daily, we count down the days every year! This year’s edition stretched from December 7th to the 10th at the Miami Beach Convention Center, and it just never ceases to amaze us the sheer breadth of unique and differing styles that are always put on display.
This year’s show was the 16th annual Art Basel Miami Beach, and it only further cemented the show’s legacy in the hearts and minds of art critics, fans and creators. The show debuted a new floor plan and show design that drew heavy praise from viewers. The rich and storied history of the Basel shows run all the way back to 1970 (in Basel) and also produce events in Hong Kong as well!
The 16th annual Art Basel Miami Beach featured items from 268 galleries presented from a staggering 32 countries, which brought an incredible amount of diversity to the show, an element we love to see each and every year. Works on display ranged from sculptures and paintings to performance art and photography, with film and modern masterpieces given a spotlight as well. Quite a few pieces were even specifically created for the event itself!
Final tallies for the event show that over 82,000 unique visitors were in attendance, including influential collectors, directors, curators, trustees and patrons of leading international museums and institutions, with some major locations represented such as The Albright-Knox Art Gallery in New York, The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, and the Brooklyn Museum in New York!
There were plenty of familiar faces bringing their works to Art Basel Miami Beach to further wow guests, but there were also quite a few first timers as well, with 20 new exhibitors such as Takuro Someya Contemporary Art, Taro Nasu and Tyler Rollins Fine Art.
