Earthquake Kills 91 People in Indonesia

On July 29th, a 6.9-magnitude earthquake occurred near the islands of Bali and Lombok. Unfortunately, ninety-one people died. During the powerful earthquake, many people rushed out of buildings. According to Indonesian authorities, two hundred people were injured by the earthquake. Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, head of the Disaster Management Department in Indonesia, expects this number to increase.  The earthquake was 31KM deep, at the north end of Lombok and near Loloan. Snapchat Rolls Out Speech Recognition

Snapchat’s newest feature allows people to use speech recognition lenses. As of now, the lenses only capture simple English words such as “hi” and “wow.” However, this update may lead to more advances with regards to Snapchat’s features.  Snapchat already featured lenses which contained audio, but this new update will be the first time that the lenses will be able to recognize users’ words. Shunned Gay Valedictorian, Seth Owen, Receives Over $80,000

Seth Owen, First Coast High School’s 2018 valedictorian, received over $80,000 in donations after his parents shunned him for being homosexual. Georgetown University wrote that their financial services have been adjusted for the student and that “his expected contribution is now $0.” Owen has more than expressed his gratitude.  Owen’s Southern Baptist parents enrolled him in gay conversion therapy. The Entire Blandford Police Department Resigns

The entire Blandford Police Department quit the force on Monday due to “unsafe working conditions.”  Its four officer department signed a statement regarding their resignation. Selectman Eric McVey established the resignation by Interim Police Chief Roberta Sarnacki, Chris Anciello, Gage Kerlik, and Krysten Scapin.
