Canada’s Largest Department Store Stops Carrying Products From Ivanka Trump’s Fashion Brand

Canada’s effort to boycott U.S. products has reached a new milestone, as Hudson’s Bay Company has recently pulled all products from Ivanka Trump’s fashion brand from their shelves.

Hudson’s Bay has stopped carrying these products in response to the tariffs which the Trump administration has placed on Canadian steel and aluminum. The company’s decision echoes a sentiment shared by a large percentage of Canadians, as demonstrated by a Twitter movement encouraging others to boycott U.S. products. Hashtags such as #BuyCanadian, #BoycottUSProducts, and #BoycottUSA trended on Twitter.

Trump’s repeated insults towards Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, which sparked immediate national outrage, also fueled the boycotts. President Trump accused Trudeau of being a bad ally to the U.S. and engaging in unfair trade measures. Some White House officials made the situation much worse, such as stating that “there is a special place in hell” for the Canadian Prime Minister.

Trudeau rose to the occasion, stating that neither he nor his administration would verbally attack individuals. Instead, he mentioned that the Trump administration’s claim that Canadian steel poses a “threat to national security” is insulting.

Hudson Bay has previously been the target of harsh criticism because they distributed the Trump family’s products. The products have already been taken off of the department store’s website, and they will gradually be discontinued in stores across the country.

Addressing the removal, the company stated:

“Hudson’s Bay is phasing out this brand through the fall based on its performance. As part of our regular course of business, we review our merchandise offerings and make appropriate changes.”

Hudson’s Bay made no mention of the boycotts and campaigns against Trump’s products, yet many are well aware of the factors which led to the company’s decision.
