A video circulated today in Karachi depicting two compassionate robbers returning valuables of a delivery man moments after looting him.

The one-minute footage captured by the nearby CCTV and broadcast by the local media showed a delivery man coming out, probably from a shop when the two robbers on a bike came from behind.

Just before the delivery man from FoodPanda company was about to mount on his bike, one of the robbers stopped him with the meaningful side of the pistol. While the other robber was on bike inches away from all this business, the looted delivery guy began to sob, and the next impulse of the robber dictated him to return what he had just looted.

Social Media Reaction

The one-minute made the day for the people of Pakistan, many of whom might have had lost faith in humanity. Social media filled with bittersweet reactions, with one consumer, said,

“We need more people like them. Faith in humanity restored.”

Another consumer, with critical disposition, said,

“So, food delivery is the only business that is safe from robbery.”

A more thought-provoking consumer, Ilyas Khan, said,

“Even better than corrupt judges, politicians, and other corrupt officers who looted this country bluntly and never returned anything.”

Yet another said, “I don’t understand how we’re living in a country where educated people are selling plasma but thieves are moved by tears and give stuff back?”

More:

However, the most hilarious of them all was by one of the consumers who, referring to both robbers, said,

“Both of them are engineers… I guarantee this,” referring to rampant joblessness among the graduates in engineering.

Is there a moral in the story?

Pakistan is a developing country, and the majority of the people are below the poverty line. For such people and society with such deprivation, which has further multiplied in the wake of the pandemic-led shutdowns, morality is the last thing that carries weight.

Still, it is a symbolic incident that can be identified with the general state of affairs coinciding in the South Asian nation.

The first aspect that comes to light in the wake of this particular video is that the robbers are not criminal minded. That, in turn, suggests the social and economic reasons are more to blame.

The governments should take it as a salutary reminder for doing more to alleviate the conditions of the people. The measures may range from legislation to providing more educational facilities to the children. Plus, under these circumstances, the government’s role should increase further as the people are famishing at homes due to the lockdowns.

Secondly, today’s event also suggests that the people in Pakistan are emotional, and are moved by such incidences. It is no wonder that the compassionate robbers, who left the delivery guy in one street of Karachi, might have looted a bank in another.
