Coronavirus Death Toll reaches 2345; Infections Rise Globally

China’s coronavirus is now breaching foreign barriers, becoming a global concern as countries in the Middle East and South Korea recorded a spike in the coronavirus death toll. The confirmed china coronavirus cases, where the virus originated, have reached 76,288 by the end of Friday, 21st Feb. The coronavirus death toll in the mainland surged to 2,345. On Friday, a total of 397 cases of coronavirus infection have been reported. Most of the deaths were in the Central province of Hubei & the provincial capital of Wuhan. The reported infections by China’s Health commission on Friday got a significant drop from the 889 cases, which were confirmed a day earlier.  As per the National Health Commission, the total numbers of infected persons who have recovered are 18,277.

China also witnessed a case where a 20-year old Chinese woman who traveled from Wuhan to her relatives and showed no signs of infection has transmitted the coronavirus to five of her family members. She was later tested positive for the virus infection after all here relatives started getting the symptoms. Chinese scientists have thus derived that the virus can also be transmitted asymptomatically.

Middle East worries among the rising coronavirus death toll

Iran had no single coronavirus cases until last week. Now, it has now reported two more deaths, taking the coronavirus death toll to 4 and infections around 13. However, experts suggest that the number of infections will be much more in Iran and have not been confirmed through tests yet. Iran’s health minister has suggested people restrain movement through religious sites in Qom, where the first two deaths & most infections have been reported. Authorities in the city of Qom have shut down schools and universities as a measure to prevent further spread of the deadly virus.

South Korea in an unprecedented health crisis

South Korea reported a soaring spike in coronavirus death toll as the country’s total confirmed cases reached 433. South Korea reported 229 new confirmed coronavirus cases on February 22. The majority cases are occurring in a city ’Diego,’ where a church congregation caused a cluster of coronavirus cases. 2 deaths have been reported in the country so far.

Quarantined Diamond Princess in Japan releases all Passengers

The Diamond Princess docked in Yokohoma, and Japan reported a total of 634 coronavirus cases. The cruise ship, which was quarantined on February 5, had nationals from multiple countries. After 14-day quarantine on the ship, the passengers were evacuated by their countries while some are waiting for their pickup. An elderly couple on board the cruise ship died with the virus earlier this week in a hospital in Japan. Japan, meanwhile, has reported a total of 93 coronavirus cases in the country.

Singapore has also reported a high total of 86 coronavirus cases until February 21.  Taiwan and Thailand have respectively reported 24 and 35 coronavirus cases, while one death was reported in the former country.

The United States confirmed 26 coronavirus cases, out of which 11 are the passengers evacuated from the Diamond Princess Cruise Ship. The rest are from different states across America, who have had a traveling history to China or came in contact with someone from Wuhan.UK and UAE have reported 9 cases each, while countries like Sweden, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Lebanon, Israel, Egypt, Cambodia, Belgium have all reported one coronavirus case each.
