The United States has tried COVID 19 vaccine last March 16 in its first individual who is undergoing a clinical trial, a report from the Association Press said.
AP said the National Institutes of Health had funded the trial. It took place at Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute in Seattle. It is one of the first US places hit hard by COVID 19.
The report said it would take at least a year up to 18 months before fully validating any potential vaccine.
COVID 19 Vaccine Tested in 45 Individuals
According to AP’s report, the testing begun with 45 healthy volunteers with different doses of shots. AP said it was developed by NIH and Moderna Inc. It was assured that the participants would not get infected through the shots. The shots do not contain the virus itself. According to AP, it will be used solely to show that there will have no worrisome side effects.
Amidst this situation in Washington, there are many other research groups around the world working on Covid 19 vaccine. According to AP, all these groups are pursuing different types of vaccines. The shots will be developed from a variety of new technology that is not only faster to produce but is also proven to be more potent,
According to AP, some researchers are also trying to develop vaccines that are effective on a short time basis wherein Covid vaccine shots can be effective for at least 2 to 3 months.
President Trump Supports Swift Development of the Vaccine
In a recent statement to the press, President Donald Trump has expressed his concern about the situation and emphasized his hopes to see a Covid 19 vaccine developed.
Meanwhile, volunteers from the University of Pennsylvania are also gearing towards safety tests under Inovio Pharmaceuticals for next month, AP said. Inovio Pharmaceuticals is also working on Covid 19 vaccine.
There will be another similar study in China and South Korea.
AP quoted Dr Anthonu Fauci, NIH’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director, as saying that even if the initial tests go well, it would still take about a year to a year and a half before any vaccine can be widespread use.
Despite that phase, it is still considered a record-setting pace.
As of now, there is still no proven treatment for Covid 19.
