From New York Shenanigans to New York Capital

Cynthia Nixon, Sex & the City Star, is attempting to change the face of New York history, and her reputation.

Acclaimed actress, most famous for her role on Sex & the City is now running for the governor of New York. She was known as Miranda Hobbes, a career-minded, strong-willed, voice-of-reason individual on this show, who had a pessimistic view on relationships and men.

She has a very rigorous history on the big screen, starting from when she was only 12 years old. The astounding thespian landed several roles in various movies and plays, including Broadway productions. Nixon then found stardom when she played one of the four regulars in the HBO show, Sex & the City. This role opened the doors for her in acting, and she found herself in many award-winning movies and shows, and even won a Grammy. It’s obvious she was talented.

Today, she has put away the hat of acting, and is attempting to fit the hat of government and politics. Nevertheless, this doesn’t automatically mean she didn’t have any indication of her passion for politics. Having identified as bisexual, publically, in 2012, Nixon is a prominent advocate for LGBT rights in the U.S. She has been fighting for the right of same-sex marriage. She even met her current wife, Christine Marinoni, at a gay rights rally. Today, she takes a public stand in supporting the legalization of same-sex marriage in various states, including Washington.

Furthermore, Nixon has been a long-time proponent for public education. She is even a spokesperson for the New York’s Alliance for Quality Education, which is a coalition mobilizing communities across the state of New York to keep its promise of ensuring a high-quality public school education to all students.

After the report that Nixon will prepare a liberal challenge to the current governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, there was talk of possible failure and situations that could arise. People have said that there is no way she could win, considering less than 4% of governors running for reelection have lost their primaries since 1970. Additionally, she doesn’t have a similar political resume.

Even so, there is hope for the candidate to succeed the current governor with votes. Cuomo seems to be a lot less popular than the last elections. Also, Nixon has gained a lot of support from NYC’s mayors, and has gained a lot of backing from many liberals that have found Cuomo too moderate and conservative for their taste. She is pushing the Democratic Party farther left within the state, and encourages for “better democrats.”

Furthermore, she is planning to advance the rights of the LGBTQ community, and improve income inequality, and advance education and academic resources.

It is outlandish to imagine someone informally known as Miranda Hobbes on an HBO show could possibly the governor of the state in which she grew up in, and played her most important role. But hey, look at the White House.

A little about me. I have been writing since my 2nd grade teacher praised my writing and recommended me for a writing program, in which my articles were published. Ever since then, I have just been writing short stories, and about prevalent things that occur within my life.
