Sexual assault and rape are crimes that are now taken very seriously by many countries in the world. All claims of rape are now taken more seriously by a lot of people. It seems like one German model is being accused of taking advantage of that. BBC News is reporting that model Gina-Lisa Lohfink is going to be convicted for making false rape allegations against 2 men. Many are outraged as her case has caught the attention of many citizens in the country.

The controversy started in connection to a 2012 video that surfaced online. BBC News also reports that this video shows Lohfink having sex with two men. In the footage, she can be heard saying  ‘No.’ She insists that the incident was rape and that the two men took advantage of her. The case made national news and caused so much controversy that it caused the country to change some of its policies on rape. BBC News is stating that in July of this year, the country modified its laws and now declare that if a victim says no, the incident is rape, even if he or she does not fight back against his or her attacker.

After Lohfink took her case to court, the two men accused of raping her took her back to court and sued her for making false rape allegations against them. The court ruled in favor of the two men. Lohfink is to be fined the equivalent of $22,600 US dollars in her country. A court in Berlin delivered this ruling.

Despite the court ruling against her, the model is still standing firm in her claims. Lohfink stands behind her statements that she was raped, and did not consent to the sex or the filming of the incident. When the court ruled against her in this second trial, she stormed out of the courtroom and seemed visibly upset. Lohfink claims that she did not take this case to the public for the attention, but did this because she feels as though it was a serious injustice. Officials and citizens who side with Lohfink in this matter fear that this ruling will prevent other victims who have been sexually assaulted from coming forward in the future.

Lohfink’s case is a controversial one that requires investigators as well as the public to carefully look at all the facts. One can only hope that as this trial progresses, the truth will be revealed and proper justice will be served.
