Goosebumps is the latest children’s franchise to get a sequel. However, the recently announced Goosebumps 2 is set to feature an entirely new human cast, including the actor who played the character of Ben in It.

Fans of the books and the original film shouldn’t despair, however, as Goosebumps 2 will remain loosely connected to the previous films with its classic Goosebumps monsters.

The original film, starring Jack Black, is certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with 76% of its reviews being positive. The average rating was 6.3. It made $80 million domestically and $150 million internationally against a $58 million budget, according to Box Office Mojo.

The sequel will most likely be just as profitable as the original. It’s the closest to a kids film in a month full of rated R frights.

Although Jack Black will return to voice a puppet in Goosebumps 2, the sequel will feature both a new director and new screenwriter. The director, Ari Sandel, directed the 2015 film The DUFF. Sandel won an Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film in 2006.

If you’ve ever read a Goosebumps book, you might be interested in seeing this movie. Both the books and the original film were fun, mysterious and thrilling.

Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween will be released on October 12, 2018.
