Huawei Develops Super Phone Battery

By now it seems that the life of a smartphone battery is a global crisis. Not having enough juice seems to be something most smartphone owners experience on a daily basis. Several phone companies and features have tried to approach the problem, but the level of the improvements is minimal.

Now Huawei has taken action by developing a supercharger. On Friday, November 13, Huawei announced their newest feature developed in their Central Research Institute: Watt Lab. The people of the Watt Lab have manufactured a lithium-ion battery that can be charged 10 times faster than the batteries currently on the market.

This video shows how a 3000mAh battery charges from zero percent to 48% in about five minutes.

The Watt Lab “bonded heteroatoms to the molecule of the graphite in anode, which could be a catalyst for the capture and transmission of lithium through carbon bonds,” to achieve these results.

Though this technology sounds awesome, it, of course, might have a downside. The excessive heat a phone produces when being charged as quick as this technology allows can shorten the lifespan of the battery. Huawei states that their new technology will not affect the battery lifespan, but the company doesn’t mention how the technology deals with the heat.

The release of these chargers has yet to be announced.
