After a report from TechCrunch describing Instagram’s plans for a long-form video hub, the social media company is inviting reporters to a June 20th “special event.” The invitation reads “Instagram has some news to share, and we want you to be the first to hear about it.”
According to the report, Instagram will let creators upload 4K, fullscreen, vertically oriented videos up to an hour in length. In addition, the videos will be available in a designated video hub featuring curated collections of videos. It is unclear at this point, however, whether the video hub will be featured in a separate app, or incorporated into Instagram’s flagship main application. Similar to YouTube, Instagram will allow creators to add links to their videos that will let them drive traffic to their personal websites or stores. Lastly, Instagram will let creators monetize their videos, although the exact ad structure has not been revealed yet.
The event will be held on June 20th in San Francisco.
