Joey Chestnut Sets World Record at Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest

For most people, the 4th of July is a day to celebrate the independence of America, but for others, it’s for watch Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest.

Every year on the birthday of the USA people gather around to witness this competitive eating competition that has left one man to be recognized as “Jaws,” and that man is Joey Chestnut.

Chestnut has revolutionized the world of competitive hot dog eating, winning the contest eleven of the past twelve years. This year was perhaps the most special of all as Chestnut broke his world record by downing a whopping 74 hot dogs in just ten minutes.

When asked about his historic day, Chesnut replied “I found a vicious rhythm. I was feeling good today.”

You might ask, how is a human being capable of eating that much food in so little time? The answer: Training. Joey Chestnut conditions his body to consume so many hot dogs by fasting and using milk, water, and other supplements to stretch his stomach. This creates much more space for him when he enters the competition.

He is able to not only challenge the limits of his body but of his mind as well. Facing the challenge of eating that much in a compressed time frame can be daunting, so it takes tremendous willpower and determination to be able to power through and win year after year the way Chestnut does.

He has created a dynasty in the hot dog eating world, and there is no indication that he will be dethroned anytime soon.
