Saving the world is a popular narrative that we all love to follow, and this team of superheroes is predicted to have the biggest box office opening of 2017. This, of course, is the incomparable Justice League.
Justice League, the massive DC Comics superhero team, has substantially grown over time. This squadron was introduced in “The Brave and The Bold #28” in 1960. The seven original members were Superman, Aquaman, Flash, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, Batman and Wonder Woman. Over the years, the team has seen additional rotating members, such as Atom, Black Canary, Green Arrow, Hawkgirl, Hawkman, Plastic Man and plenty others.
There has been a plethora of adapted Justice League-related content. There have been various animated television shows like “Super Friends,” “Justice League,” it’s sequel “Justice League Unlimited” and the current adaption, “Justice League Action.”
With all of these television shows, there has never been a movie adaption. In 2008, the idea was first introduced but was shelved by Warner Brothers. In 2012, the idea was revived but shelved again. Finally, in 2014, the first film adaptation was announced. Zack Snyder, the director of “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” was set to direct, but left the project in May 2017 due to family complications. The project was then taken over by Joss Whedon, one of the duo screenplay writers for the film.
“Justice League” will be the fifth installment in DC Extended Universe. The DCEU hasn’t had the best of reputation with the first three films, not getting over certified fresh by Rotten Tomatoes.
That streak was broken, however, by the huge success of “Wonder Woman.” With over a 90 percent ranking on Rotten Tomatoes and a box office making of 821.6 million dollars worldwide, “Wonder Woman” is a smash hit for DCEU. Wonder Woman will be featured in “Justice League” which will definitely be an upside for the upcoming film.
Warner Brothers is supposedly pacing for a box office debut of $110 million, sources tell Entertainment Weekly. This prediction is a little more than what “Wonder Woman” brought in at $103 million. DC Comics seems to have very high hopes for this picture, and believe it will be their best yet.
The plot of “Justice League” follows Bruce Wayne, inspired by Superman’s selfless act in the previous installment, as he enlists other superheroes to fight off a greater threat with him and Wonder Woman. The team eventually is made up of Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and the Flash. Together, they stand together to fight off this potentially deadly threat and save the world.
“The sheer ‘must-see’ factor, given the ensemble cast of iconic characters, is undeniable, and much like Batman v Superman, the concept of the movie and the cast transcends any mixed sentiments regarding the film that may be out there in the pre-release window,” stated Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst with tracking company comScore.
“Justice League” does feature an all-star cast. Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot and Henry Cavill will all return in their superhero roles. They are joined by Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller and Ray Fisher.
Besides “Wonder Woman”, “Justice League” has been highly anticipated by audiences everywhere. Presale tickets on Fandango have already launched for this movie, and the projected number could grow as the weeks go on. This film can potentially reestablish DC Comics Extended Universe as a franchise to watch out for. “Wonder Woman” definitely helped, but a second box office hit can prove its standing in the superhero movie industry.
“Justice League” will fly into theaters on November 17th.
