The end seems to be near with Derrick Rose and the Bulls. It was reported a few days ago that the Bulls were actively open to trading Derrick Rose this offseason. And that shouldn’t come as a surprise. Sadly due to injuries, he’s just not the player he once was. And the Bulls are a team who missed their window to win, and now they should look to rebuild. And with rebuilding would come trade away a few pieces, including Rose.
One team so far has been reported to have interest in Rose and that is the New York Knicks. Ian Begley of ESPN reported that: “The Knicks have had internal discussions about trading for Derrick Rose.” The Knicks have publicly said that they want to upgrade their point guard position this offseason son interest in Rose shouldn’t come as a total surprise. The question is what would it take to get Rose. It’s not known if it will take a first-round pick, which the Knicks don’t have this year. But besides future first round picks the Knicks only intriguing trade options are Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis, who they likely won’t be trading.
If the Knicks were able to pull off a trade for Rose, they could become an interesting team. Carmelo Anthony, Kristaps Porzingis, and Derrick Rose isn’t a terrible big three. Obviously, the Knicks would have liked to pair Anthony and Rose together a few years ago when they were both better, but it would still work now. It at least could be a big three that could get the Knicks to the playoffs. Important to note though that the Knicks have only had internal discussions about this and haven’t talked to the Bulls yet. He may not end up on the Knicks, but it sounds like we should start preparing for Rose to no longer be on the Bulls.
