Bear Grylls can go home! Reginald Foggerdy, 62, was lost in an Australian desert for six days where he managed to survive by eating ants.
Mr. Foggerdy was lost while hunting with his brother on October 7. A search for the missing man began on earth and in the air. During his time wandering around the wilderness, the maximum temperature reached over a vertiginous 90 degrees Fahrenheit, which made the situation for no easier for Mr. Foggerdy who was only wearing a t-shirt, shorts and flip-flops but carrying no water or food.
“His last couple of days of survival were achieved by lying down under a tree and eating black ants,” said Andy Greatwood, police superintendent. The hunter was found 9 miles from where he had gone missing while hunting with his brother.
While having to survive without water in the desert for that many days, Reginald Foggerdy was fortunate to know that ants are good sources of nutrients as they’re basically all protein. Despite this fact, however, experts are still amazed that Mr. Foggerdy managed to survive with this small intake.
“How you can survive without water and food is a miracle,” said the wife of the hunter, Arlyn Foggerdy. That Mr. Foggerdy found a tree to seek shade under too had a great impact of his survival in the huge desert.
On Monday, October 12 the search finally paid off when police found and tracked the footprints of the 62-year-old huntsman. Eventually he was found yesterday, October 13, “extremely dehydrated, a bit delusional,” Greatwood stated.
The fact that the hunter was found in itself is a miracle as the Great Australian Desert is the largest one in Australia.
