Marc Jacobs has made his Instagram debut when just last month he publicly announced how “appalled” he was with social media.
On the designer’s first ever Instagram post it shows his side profile while smirking with the caption, “No filter, (Some filler)!”
In a Vogue interview last month he said “I am so appalled by the whole social media thing. I don’t get it, it doesn’t appeal to me, neither does a computer, or working on a laptop.”
Maybe his sudden change of heart is due to all the transformations happening in the Marc Jacobs house with his main line becoming Marc by Marc Jacobs.
For Jacobs to see growing success he must follow public trends and Instagram being one of the largest social media outlets makes it one of them.
Initial public offering (IPO) has been known to bring many designers to great success, such as designer Michael Kors who is the biggest designer on IPO.
The Michael Kors brand has integrated a great deal of media into their marketing campaigns. With the use of mainstream TV and various social media sites like Twitter and Instagram, he gained the most followers out of any designer showing for fall 2014 fashion shows. The brand was also the first to begin Instagram advertising.
Jacobs may not like it, but he learned he must integrate IPO into his brand to see the success he want with this new generation.
