Singer SZA recently tweeted that her voice has been permanently damaged.
SZA has been touring for nearly over a year now and was expected to participate in a tour featuring artists from her label Top Dawg Entertainment. She now may be forced to miss out on this tour completely due to her “rumored” injury. It is not certain what this means for the future of her career.
SZA had shared a May 22 statement from her boss who pulled her out of the tour because her vocal cords have become swollen. She needed the rest and it also appears that she had been tested by a doctor. And the results are not optimistic, according to SZA’s tweets.
She also posted on her Twitter that she just wants to be left alone and that she needs her space.
This is very unfortunate news for SZA who has been on the rise. Her debut studio album Ctrl was released almost a year ago on June 9. Ctrl received critical acclaim from music critics.
She was also nominated for five Grammys in 2018. These nominations include Best New Artist, Ctrl for Best Urban Contemporary Album, a song from the album “The Weekend” for Best R&B Performance, another song “Supermodel for Best R&B Song and “Love Galore” (featuring Travis Scott) for Best Rap/Sung Performance. However, she did not win any Grammys this time around.
Meanwhile, SZA has collaborated with many successful artists: Kendrick Lamar, Maroon 5, Post Malone, Lorde, Calvin Harris, Justin Timberlake, Khalid, Cardi B, etc. She also worked with Lamar with on a song for the soundtrack of the hit movie Black Panther. This song “All the Stars” peaked at #7 for the Billboard Hot 100.
SZA also made a cameo in the music video for Childish Gambino’s song “This is America.” Gambino also made an appearance in the music video for SZA’s song “Garden (Say It Like Dat).”
Hopefully, this injury isn’t the end of her up and coming rise to mainstream stardom.
