Fox has recently announced that Narcos Star Boyd Holbrook is going to be the lead actor in The Predator reboot film. Benicio del Toro was in negotiations to play the lead role, but due to schedule complications, Holbrook is expected to be the new lead.

Shane Black is assigned to direct the new Predator film, which is being written by Fred Dekker. Joel Silver and Lawrence Gordon, who were apart of the original Predator film as producers in 1987, are expected to produce the new film. Silver and Gordon are reportedly hoping for The Predator to start filming next year.

Plot details are still being kept under wraps at Fox. The original Predator film was directed by John McTiernan in 1987. The cast included Arnold Schwarzenegger as the lead actor, Jesse Ventura and Carl Weathers. The plot surrounded a group of commandos attempting to rescue hostages in a Central America jungle while being stalked by an extra-terrestrial creature.

Boyd Holbrook has risen to fame while starring in the critically acclaimed Netflix series Narcos, which depicted the rise and fall of Pablo Escobar’s reign of power in Columbia. The actor’s filmography includes The Skeleton Twins, Gone Girl, Hatfields & McCoys, Very Good Girls. Holbrook has also starred alongside Elisabeth Moss in The Free World, which debuted at the 2016’s Sundance Film Festival.

Boyd Holbrook is also starring as one of the main antagonists in Logan, the sequel to the X-Men spinoff film series which includes 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine and 2013’s The Wolverine. The cast for Logan includes Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Stephen Merchant, Richard E. Grant, Elise Neal, and Eriq La Salle.

Logan is the last film Hugh Jackman will act as the X-Men superhero character Wolverine. The new film is expected to debut in theaters on March 3rd 2017.

Fox has slotted The Predator to be released in theaters on February 9th 2018.
