NBA Finals Game 2 Recap: Dubs make it a Dud

Last night’s offensive performance by the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 2 of the NBA Finals would have been good enough to force overtime points-wise in Game 1. Their defense, however, was unequivocally offensive as they allowed the Warriors to gash them for 132 points on 51.7 Percent shooting overall and 41.9 percent shooting from beyond the arch to secure a second consecutive two games to none lead for Golden State, who moved to 14-0 in the postseason. These kinds of one-sided dominant results sound more impressive than they actually are, as with two former Most Valuable Player Award winners on the roster, this is merely hurtling towards expectations for the San Francisco-based club. Of that twosome, Kevin Durant led the teams in points scored with 33, while Curry not to be outdone had a triple-double with 32 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists and Klay Thompson rebounded from an ugly Game 1 to shoot 8-12 for 22 points.

Cleveland’s three stars, LeBron James (who tied Magic Johnson with an eighth Finals triple-double), Kevin Love, and Kyrie Irving came up with 75 points, the rest of the team once again could not match their star’s production levels as Golden State’s depth overwhelmed the veteran Cavs Bench which despite its maturity is notably short on top tier defensive talent, hence the crooked numbers. Cleveland may be heading home for Game 3 but at this point, unless J.R. Smith turns into Kobe Bryant or Deron Williams turns into Cavaliers legend Mark Price, it is hard to foresee the bad defense stopping for Cleveland and them winning a single game much less the series. One thing to note is, as I said the same thing last year when Cleveland was down 0-2 and they came back to win, with the addition of Ring-Chaser Durant and Cleveland’s inability to slow him, we may have to bust out the brooms soon for the City of Light, City of Magic. Game 3 is Wednesday Night in Cleveland.
