The newest trailer for Netflix’s adaptation of the popular Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events novels has premiered worldwide.
The trailer features a peak at Neil Patrick Harris as the new show’s villain, Count Olaf. The Series of Unfortunate Events follows three orphan children, whose evil guardian, Count Olaf, is determined to steal their inheritance. The orphans, Violet, Klaus, and Sunny, have to work together to outsmart Count Olaf and uncover the clues to their parent’s mysterious deaths.
The new Series of Unfortunate Events series includes eight episodes for the show’s first season. The series also stars Patrick Warburton, Joan Cusack, Malina Weissman, and Louis Hynes. Malina Weissman is set to portray Violet Baudelaire and Louis Hynes is set to portray Klaus Baudelaire.
In 2004, A Series of Unfortunate Events was adapted into a feature film, which starred Jim Carrey as Count Olaf. The film was directed by Brad Silberling and earned over 209 million dollars in theaters worldwide.
Originally Paramount Pictures planned to launch their 2004 Series of Unfortunate Events movie into a film franchise. Unfortunately, the possible sequel to A Series Unfortunate Events was never made.
The 2004 film won an Academy Award for Best Makeup and was also praised by film critics and fans alike. Reportedly Daniel Holder, the author that goes by his pen name Lemony Snicket, and Silberling kept in touch to champion a sequel film.
In 2008, due to corporate reorganization, the project was delayed too long to cast the same actors from the 2004 film for the new sequel. Silberling and Holder allegedly discussed having A Series of Unfortunate Events sequel turned into a stop motion film. Although instead the sequel project was abandoned all together at Paramount.
in 2014, Netflix decided to partner with Paramount Television to give the beloved Snicket novels a second chance at life.
Netflix’s Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events will debut worldwide on January 13th, 2017.
