Today a trailer for the Christopher Robin Disney film was released on the Ellen DeGeneres show and the footage is heartwarming, happily crying fun.
You may mot recognize the name of Christopher Robin but he is the boy who is the long time friend of Winnie the Pooh and the other talking animals from the Hundred Acre Wood.
The Christopher Robin movie is about an older Christopher Robin (Ewan McGregor) who now has a wife played by Hayley Atwell and daughter played by Bronte Carmichael. Robin is struggling with adulthood and it seems Winnie the Pooh and friends will bring more clarity and happiness into his life.
The trailer begins in the past with a younger Robin who is hanging out with his pals at a farewell party and ensures a worried Pooh that he will not forget about him. The trailer then transitions to the present where Robin needs to decide whether to spend a weekend working or spending time with his family.
Suddenly, Pooh appears and Robin recognizes him. This is heartwarming because Robin indeed never forgot about his adventures in the Hundred Acre Wood and it shows that he still has a childlike passion and imagination within him.
This is uplifting because it doesn’t follow the trope of forgetting your childhood whether it’s good or bad. After all, why would Robin forget his youth? He had a great time with Pooh. One reasonable explanation for him to forget would be that he imagined everything.
However, later in the trailer his daughter interacts with Pooh and friends. Though she is a child, so maybe she’s using her imagination to help her father. If the stuffed animals are alive or not, then there’s still potential for a meaningful message.
It is truly refreshing though that the trailer implies that Christopher Robin won’t waste time or pace with Robin needing to remember who Pooh Bear is or question the reality of Pooh.
In the trailer, Pooh needs Robin help to find his friends. Robin travels back to the Hundred Acre Wood and successfully reunites the beloved stuffed animals.
He then has to go to back and deal with his adulthood conflicts. Pooh then realizes it’s about time that he and his pals help Christopher Robin, so Pooh, Eeyore, Tigger and Piglet enter London and aided by Robin’s daughter intend to help their longtime friend.
The trailer has many great moments and dialogue, especially from Pooh Bear but the line that best expresses what this video achieves comes from Christopher Robin.
“It’s so nice to see you all again.” Of course kids are going to see this movie but this trailer can make adults remember any way Pooh Bear had a role in their childhood and want to experience another adventure with him and his friends.
The film features the voices of Jim Cummings as Winnie-the-Pooh and Tigger, Brad Garrett as Eeyore, Toby Jones as Owl, Nick Mohammed as Piglet, Peter Capaldi as Rabbit and Sophie Okonedo as Kanga, according to E!.
Christopher Robin opens in theatres on August 3rd and hopefully no one judges you if you bring a stuffed animal with you to see it.
