Today at the E3 video game conference in Los Angeles, Nintendo announced the heavily anticipated next installment in its acclaimed fighter series Super Smash Bros. Dubbed Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the new game will feature every character ever included in all of the games put together. That’s a roster of more than 60 fighters, not including some new additions. Ultimate will include characters previously available only with DLC from the Wii U version, such as Ryu from Street Fighter.
The game, despite speculation to the contrary, is not a port – it’s a brand new game. Every character’s appearance has been revamped, and each has also had its movements tweaked. For example, Link will wear his blue Champion’s Tunic from Breath of the Wild, while Mario will don Cappy from Super Mario Odyssey.
New stages include a Great Plateau stage from Breath of the Wild, and a city stage from Splatoon 2.
Nintendo also announced a few new characters: the ink-shooting Inklings from its shooter series Splatoon, in addition to Ridley from Metroid. In addition, popular favorites from previous games such as Solid Snake and Ice Climbers will return as well.
The game will feature battles of up to eight players concurrently, and will also support use of the popular GameCube controller through use of an adaptor.
The game will launch as a Nintendo Switch exclusive on December 7th of this year.
