“I’m with Her,” President Barack Obama says today.
Hillary Clinton clinched the presumptive Democratic nomination only earlier this week, and President Obama has already endorsed her. In a video released on Thursday by the Clinton Campaign, the current president formally endorses Hillary and cites her as a person who will successfully get the job done.
“I don’t think there’s ever been someone so qualified to hold this office,” Obama says in the video. He says he knows firsthand how difficult of a position the presidency is, which is why he knows Hillary will be a good fit.
Obama further cited the many times he has worked with Clinton and can attest to her courage, compassion, and commitment to the country. He not only competed against her in the 2008 election, but she also served as his Secretary of State. The two of them have
This video was released shortly after a meeting President Obama had with Bernie Sanders. The meeting gave more hope to unity in the party, especially through adding Sanders’ ideas to the Democratic platform. Bernie Sanders was mentioned in the endorsement video as Obama commended him on his campaign and all of the new ideas he has brought to the table. Sanders is set to meet Vice President Joe Biden soon, as well.
The Democratic Party, including Obama and Hillary, is worried that the party may not be fully unified in time for the general election. Sanders has vowed to remain in the primary elections until the end, despite lacking too many delegates to be a viable candidate. This could have detrimental effects on Hillary’s campaign, as many of Sanders’ supporters say they will not fall behind Hillary or give up on their candidate. However, following Bernie’s meeting with Obama, he promised to be in the fight against Republican nominee Donald Trump and hopes to meet with Hillary soon to cooperate in unifying the party and sharing platform ideas.
The fight against Donald Trump for president is a great one, and Obama seems eager to aid in Hillary’s battle against the real estate tycoon and Republican nominee. President Obama is set to begin campaigning with Hillary Clinton in Wisconsin beginning as early as next week, according to the Washington Post. Obama’s support should help Hillary this general election season. She already has the support of many minorities, evident in her sweeping victories among this voting category, but the current president should help her gain votes from progressives and young people – areas where she lacks full support.
