For a mother to lose her child, no matter at what age, has to be the toughest obstacle that they would have to face within their lives.
Ursula Ward had to suffer through such an incident back in 2013, when convicted murder Aaron Hernandez, formerly of the New England Patriots, took her son’s life.
But while Ward is happy that her son’s death is avenged, and that Hernandez is dealing with the consequences, Ward still had it in her heart to forgive Hernandez for his crime.
Ward was seen at the Fall River, Massachusetts, courtroom where she composed herself, so that she may speak. When she was able to maintain herself she expressed to the judge how “Odin was the backbone of the family. Odin was the man of the house. Odin was his sisters’ keeper.”
She eventually would go on to say, “Odin was my first best gift I will ever receive. I thank God for every second and every day of my son’s life that I spent with him,” and that “The day I laid my son Odin to rest. I think my heart stopped beating for a moment. I felt like I wanted to go into that hole with my son, Odin.”
While her grief and suffering will linger for some time now, especially since the wounds were reopened by the trial being posted all over the press and the news, Ward expressed that she knows that she will one day see her son again, and that is what is getting her through all of this, and as for Hernandez she went on to state, “I forgive the hands of the people that had a hand in my son’s murder. I pray and hope that someday everyone out there will forgive them also.”
