• The annual New York International Auto Show is happening right now.
  • The year’s show focus on the more practical and functional cars.

The 2018 New York International Auto Show is bringing its audience a series of trailblazing motor vehicles ranging from Toyotas to Teslas, that contains the most progressive mechanisms enfolded by state-of-the-art contemporary designs. The public show began last Friday and will go on until April 8th, but the official opening day happened on Saturday. Some of the largest global automakers are bringing forward the most up-to-date and revolutionary concept vehicles in an exhibition that spans over four floors.

The New York International Auto Show can be traced back to the 1900s and is the first auto show with the highest attendance rate in the United States. While it may not be the most prominent auto show in 2018, there are almost one thousand motor vehicles that are being exhibited, which provides the public with the opportunity to catch a glimpse of the latest prototypes.

There is an abundance of astonishing high-performance sports cars on display, such as the 520-horsepower 2019 Porsche 911 GT3 RS, the 565-horsepower Aston Martin Vanquish Volante as well as the 1,500-horsepower Bugatti Chiron Sport.

However, one of the keyhighlightst of the 2018 New York Auto Show lies behind the exhibitions of the run-of-the-mill car models that are considered to be more concrete and functional. These are the cars that can be found commonly on the road, frequently produced by Japanese automobile manufacturers such as Toyota and Nissan. Some of the more noteworthy 2019 prototypes car models include the brand-new Subaru Forester, Toyota RAV4 and Nissan Altima – cars that you no doubt see on the streets on a daily basis. In fact, these cars are so highly in demand that there are over hundred thousand units sold annually.

The fifth generation Subaru Forester encompasses the EyeSight Driver Assist Technology across the board. The system is comprised of the Lead Vehicle Start Alert, Pre-Collision Throttle Management, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure/Sway Warning and Adaptive Cruise Control – all in one. In short, this system ensures the safety of the passengers on the road by allowing an artificial intelligence to watch out for the driver.

Needless to say, Toyota is also introducing their own version of the safety technology called the Toyota’s Safety Sense technology. It includes various functions that serves to help the driver such as dynamic cruise control as well as pedestrian detection. On top of that, Toyota also have a Road Sign Assist function that can make out the road signs and remember them when you are on the road. While Toyota did not overamplified the RAV4 series, it did put in an innovative XSE hybrid form that utilizes a both gas and electric motors such that it is the fastest version in the line.

The Nissan Altima seems to be on the same path with its ProPilot Assist, a safety technology that consists of a driver alertness monitor, which like its name, monitors and automatically detects and alerts the driver from getting distracted or snoozing. It also has a new variable compression engine. There is good news for frequent tech users. The all-new Nissan Altima has an “infotainment screen in the dash”, as pointed out by Popular Science, a media outlet that follows science and technology updates. Fortunately, this screen will be able to work with Android Auto well as Apple CarPlay.

The first and the second vehicles are competitors in the market behind compact SUVs. Since they are just a demonstration (in the Auto Show) of the 2019 prototype, people can rightfully expect more. For instance, the driver assistance features and engines are both expected to improve further to appeal to the audience. Attributable to their keen upgrades in addition to the affordability and polished look, companies like Subaru and Toyota have established a loyal customer fan base. The auto show is a good place for potential buyers to check out the new looks and features that are more practical.

Yet again, we cannot deny the excitement of seeing the all-electric Genesis Essentia grand tourer concept; the one that steals the show. It is one of the most futuristic concept that is said to be a “one of the world’s most exciting new brands”, as described by the Business Insider.
