Riot Games, the makers of popular MOBA League of Legends, supposedly are thinking about moving into Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines by the end of 2017, according to a report by Straits Times.
They have opened up positions on their recruitment page, asking for three positions based in Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City. The positions are eSports Coordinator, eSports Manager and eSports Player Relations Coordinator.
Benjamin Pommeraud, Country Manager of Singapore and Malaysia for Riot Games, said that Vietnam ranks among the top five largest player base globally for League of Legends and that the number of Indonesian players are also increasing by twofold every half year.
Riot Games’ only foothold in Southeast Asia is a temporary office in Cantonment Road in Singapore, with plans to move to a bigger office next year and increase the staff count to at least 15.
Riot Games is also hiring four new employees to be based out of its Singapore office – an eSports Business Development, Technical Site Manager, Community Coordinator, and an Associate Marketing Manager.
Riot’s worldwide expansion is most likely meant to further entice the Asian audience as well as bring in more funds for Riot and their game. The Asian market is very big on RTS and MOBA games, with LoL, DOTA 2 and Starcraft 2 really taking off in those countries.
