The pre-sale tickets for Disney’s upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story are selling out fast all over the United States. The prequel film has reportedly become the second highest record of first-day ticket pre-sales in domestic box office history.
The record-breaking info has been confirmed by IMAX Entertainment CEO Greg Foster, who announced the information at an investor conference this Tuesday.
The current first place record-holder for first-day pre-sales still goes to its predecessor’s film Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The 2015 film brought in over $248 million dollars in pre-sale domestic box office tickets.
Reportedly, Rogue One is set to rack in over $130 million dollars before the film premieres in theaters. Foster has yet to give the specifics numbers in how many pre-sale tickets were sold for the new Star Wars film.
Allegedly, Fandango and MovieTickets.com, both confirm that Rogue One has brought the biggest first-day ticket pre-sales for the entire 2016 year.
The IMAX Entertainment CEO claims the consumer marketplace has embraced the new film’s trailer after its first 36 hours on the internet.
Rogue One is expected to cap another record-breaking box office revenue year for Disney. Previously, the company dished out 4 billion dollars to purchase Lucasfilm in 2012.
Films like Moana, Doctor Strange, Finding Dory, and The Jungle Book have possibly given Disney it’s highest box office revenues ever.
Rogue One is set to be a standalone Star Wars film to exist apart from the Skywalker saga. LucasFilm also plans to release an origin story of Han Solo’s early days. The production company has cast Alden Ehrenreich to star as the lead role.
Disney also plans for two other Star Wars films to be released in the next coming years. The Star Wars franchise is set to continue the stories of Luke, Leia, and the new generation of Jedi knights.
The film is directed by Gareth Edwards and stars Felicity Jones as a rebel fighter for the resistance. Rouge One: A Star Wars Story is set to premiere in domestic theaters on December 16th 2016.
