The CW channel announced Ruby Rose as the role for the DC Hero Batwoman. Rose, an openly lesbian model and actress, will take on the lesbian superhero in an upcoming crossover event.
Batwoman will appear in a major crossover that includes the following DC shows: “Arrow,” “Legends of Tomorrow,” “Supergirl,” and “The Flash.” Asides from that, writers plan to create a stand-alone series for Batwoman.
RUBY ROSE AND BATWOMAN BOTH SERVE AS LGBT ICONS
Batwoman, also known as Kate Kane, serves justice on the streets of Gotham. This bold character speaks her mind and street-fights criminals. Rose’s character, like her, is lesbian— diversifying the DC comic universe. Of course, this character development wasn’t just included because of Ruby Rose’s lifestyle. When DC comics reintroduced Batwoman in their comics in 2006, they included her homosexuality in the plot.
If Batwoman turns out successful, the channel will launch it sometime within 2019-2020. The main executive producer and writer is Caroline Dries. In addition, Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter serve as executive producers.
The Bat is out of the bag and I am beyond thrilled and honored. I’m also an emotional wreck.. because this is a childhood dream. This is something I would have died to have seen on TV when I was a young member of the LGBT community who never felt represented on tv and felt alone and different. Thank you everyone. Thank you god.
