Ryan Reynolds to Star in the Upcoming Movie ‘Detective Pikachu’

Ryan Reynolds has officially been cast to star in the upcoming live-action Pokemon movie “Detective Pikachu”. Reynolds will be joining alongside Justice Smith, who will be seen in the upcoming Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and Big Little Lies actress Kathryn Newton.

The story revolves around Pikachu, Detective Pikachu, helping a young boy find his missing father. Motion Capture will be taking place in the film according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Pokemon was first introduced in 1966 in Japan. There have been nearly 300 million video games sold worldwide, 23 billion cards shipped to 74 countries, and an animated series spanning 20 seasons. Universal Pictures will distribute the live-action film outside of Japan. The Pokémon Company’s longtime movie collaborator, Toho, will handle distribution of the film franchise in Japan.

Knowing Reynolds as an actor but also as a charming funny guy on Twitter, it seems like he is the perfect fit for this role. Reynolds’ can be seen as the face of the “Deadpool” franchise that made way in 2016. In “Deadpool”, Reynolds plays Wade Wilson, a foul-mouthed, sarcastic guy who gets handed an unfortunate fate of transforming into Deadpool and hunts down the man who did this to him. The movie grossed over $700 million and was a huge success.

With the announcement of Reynolds playing the lead, there was some backlash from fans. When news broke of the English version of “Detective Pikachu” was being made, fans instantly imagined Danny DeVito. When DeVito was asked about the possibility, he had no idea what a Pokemon was and straight up said no. Dreams may have been crushed, but at least this hilarious moment has been captured.

Details about the movie release date or production has been announced yet. Reynolds seems like a great cast for this movie and could serve his role well. It is about time Pokemon releases a movie for the English audience and we hope it will turn out great.
