Sales for Nintendo Switch Continue to Rise

Nintendo fans finally get what they’ve been waiting so long for. Nearly a week ago the Nintendo Switch video game console was released. Nintendo hoped to improve the missteps that took place with the release of the previous generation Wii U console. The new Switch was targeted to Nintendo’s fanbase yet at the same time bringing in a new set of gamers.

While the Switch isn’t proving to be the hit that the original Wii came to be, it is bringing the world of gaming to a whole new level. This is something that consumers seem to be loving. Since its release not too long ago, the Switch Consoles have been flying off shelves all over.

It’s not just in the United States where the Switch is being snatched up. The opening weekend sales in Japan were reported to have sold nearly 331,000 units. This definitely puts the sales of the Wii U to shame. In 2012 the Wii U only sold about 20,000 units less than the original Wii.

Despite record sales in its home country, the Nintendo Switch is leaving shelves faster than it can be supplied. According to a source, Nintendo is estimated to ship out at least great million more Switch units in order to accommodate international demand. That’s just for the first month after the Switch’s release.

Even an analyst said, “Switch is on track to ship 2 million by the end of March, so that’s a solid start.” This fits in with the prediction that the Switch will “sell much better in its first year than Wii U.”  There’s also talk by analysts that say that the Switch will internationally ship 8 million consoles just in its first year alone. Breath of the Wind has earned itself the title of the fourth highest-rated game of all time with a rating of 98.

Yet what is it that causes such massive sales for the Switch? Not only is it convenient for gamers who want to take their play on the go, but a large chunk of sales could correspond with the launch of the Switch game The Legend of Zelda, Breath of the Wild.

Lewis Ward, who is the director of the VR/AR of IDC a market research firm, told a source that he believes, “Breath of the Wild is being heralded as one of the best games of the year already. I suspect that this Zelda launch title is a key reason why first week sales have been strong.”
