First, Roseanne Barr’s slip of fingers when she had tweeted a racially charged tweet to Obama’s former advisor, Valerie Jarrett. Now, Samantha Bee, a Canadian comedian who runs Full Frontal, verbally attacks President Trump’s daughter, Ivanka Trump. In her monologue this week, Bee began to go after Ivanka Trump because the First Daughter posted a picture of her and her child. Here’s what Bee had to say;

    “You know, Ivanka, that’s a beautiful photo of you and your child. Let me just say, one mother to another, do something about your dad’s immigration practices you feckless c—. He listens to you…Put on something tight and low-cut and tell your father to f— stop it. Tell him it was an Obama thing and see how it goes, OK?

Bee’s words spiraled into a controversial mess since it’s now being compared to Roseanne Barr’s scandal earlier in the week. And while both did apologize through statements,  people are questioning the effects from their words. Barr had her ABC show, Roseanne, canceled. However, there has been no word on whether or not Full Frontal will be canceled too. Conservatives are arguing against Bee since, unlike Barr, her monologue was entirely scripted; which means that her words were planned out, edited, and approved by the show.

Other people— mainly Liberals— are standing up for Bee. They argue that she’s bringing attention to President Trump’s poor immigration policies, specifically dealing with the missing immigrant children. People are outraged over the fact that nearly 1,500 unaccompanied children weren’t accounted for in the recent report, primarily since they were handled through the Federal Government’s ORR. President Trump has also gotten backlash for the new agency policies that are separating undocumented children from their parents. The whole immigration scene is currently a mess, however, does it justify Samantha Bee’s crude remark?

In this case, people play double standards depending on their political stance. A majority of Liberals were against Barr’s offensive tweet. Yet, they want to support Bee’s vile remark of Ivanka and her child, because there’s context about immigration policies in her monologue. Regardless of whether or not Bee’s words dealt with political context, it’s still wrong. Just like how Barr was wrong for tweeting such an offensive statement.

There was absolutely no reason for Bee to bring Ivanka’s photo into her segment.

The picture of the child and her has no relevance to what’s happening with immigration issues that are currently taking place in the United States. And while it’s okay to critique policies and the people who put those policies in place, it’s crossing a whole other line when you drag another person into the problem, who honestly plays no significant role in the issue. Just because Ivanka Trump is President Trump’s daughter, that’s no excuse for her to undergo backlash for her father’s presidential administration.

Some conservatives now are wondering if Bee’s Full Frontal show is going to cancel. If the show isn’t canceled, then this further proves the ideology that the media is bias towards the democratic/liberal side of the political spectrum. Asides from the show being reprimanded, Samantha Bee has already lost two advertisers for her show. Autotrader and State Farm both decided to pull out due to the crude material. “Bee’s comments were offensive and unacceptable…We will not run Autotrader advertising on Samantha Bee’s show moving forward.” Autotrader spoke in a statement.

Hopefully, celebrities can use Bee and Barr’s situations as examples of what not to say in the media. It doesn’t matter what side you support if you’re a Democrat or Republican. What matters is how you say things.
