Lately, the Korean tech company known as Samsung has been pushing to revolutionize how the displays on our devices look and how we interact with them. Bloomberg Technology’s sources point toward the company pushing to release two new phones with flexible screens as early as the beginning of next year.
Samsung has had this technology in the works for a while now and has experimented with bendable displays by being one the first manufacturers to release curved televisions and computer monitors. We have also seen a little bit of this technology in Samsung’s smartphones the Galaxy Edge and the Galaxy Note Edge. While these displays are only curved and not flexible in any way, they are an important stepping stone that needed to be taken before full flexibility is achieved.
According to Bloomberg’s source, Lee Seung Woo (an analyst at IBK Securities Co. in Seoul, Korea) says,
“This product could be a game-changer if Samsung successfully comes up with a user interface suitable for bendable screens.Next year is a probable scenario. Their biggest obstacle was related to making transparent plastics and making them durable, which seems resolved by now.”
The current project is being developed under the codename “Project Valley” and can be expected to make its debut as early as February 2017. This will give Samsung a head start over the San Francisco-based tech company, Apple, who isn’t expected to release OLED displays for their mobile devices until late 2017.
