Sexist Ad Campaign in Italy Sparks Outrage

Women all over the world have been striving for gender equality for years. The media is one place where women have been trying to be fairly represented. It seems like the women of Italy are facing another problem with how they and their issues are being represented in the media of the country. According to The Cut, women of the nation are outraged at how they are being represented in ad campaigns for a “Fertility Day.” This news has women all over the world questioning the choice to run this ad campaign.

Several images are shown in the ad campaign and more than one of them is causing people to question the choice. The Cut is reporting that a total of six images are being featured in the ad. These ads also feature many questionable slogans like “Beauty has no age, but fertility does” and “Male fertility is more fragile than you think” accompanied by a photo of a banana that appears to be rotting.

Birth and fertility rates have recently gone down in the area. This is what has lead to the recent ad campaigns. The Cut is also reporting that from 1970 to 2013, the average fertility rate went from 2.4 per woman to 1.5. This number does show a drastic decrease in the population of the people of the European woman.

The campaign has received a lot of backlash in Italy and also all over the world. The Prime Minister of the nation has even expressed his disdain for the tactics used in this ad campaign. Though the creators of the controversial images have apologized, their apology is still not satisfying many people across the globe.

Feminist and gender rights expand to all corners of life. This particular ad campaign has been negatively received by both men and women. As the situation continues to unfold, hopefully, other advertisers can learn how to avoid this offensive obstacle.
