Snap, maker of Snapchat, has introduced Snap Kit, a developer kit that will allow app makers to bring Snapchat features to their apps. Snap sees this as a way to help resume growth by introducing features like Bitmoji and AR lenses to a wider audience.
There are four kits featured in Snap’s press release. Firstly, Creative Kit will help developers “integrate their own stickers, Filters, links, and other highlights – like high scores and workout stats – right into the Snapchat camera, so you can add your own touch and share it with friends.” For example, Postmates has teamed up with Snap to create a Snapchat sticker that will display the estimated time of arrival for an item ordered through the Postmates app.
Login Kit is a competitor to Facebook Login and will allow users to login to third-party applications with their Snapchat login. Snap is positioning this as a secure alternative to Facebook.
Bitmoji Kit will let other applications use Bitmoji stickers.
Story Kit will allow developers to embed public Snapchat Stories into their own apps or services.
