Looking for low-cost summer getaway this year? Well, you may just find one– Southwest Airlines just launched its annual fare sale with tickets as low as $49.
The three-day sale, one of just two annual mega sales Southwest offers, covers non-stop flights between Aug, 22 and Dec, 13. However, the sale only includes one-way “Wanna Get Away” fares.
There are over 100 hundred travel destinations with one-way tickets as low as $49. Some include flights from Midway International Airport to Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Detroit, Flint, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Louisville, Memphis, Omaha, Pittsburgh, and St. Louis. Most of the airline’s other flight prices vary between $50 and $100, and some go as far as $189.
The sale has destinations to cities all over the country and even includes flights to cities outside of the U.S. A flight to Cancun, Mexico from Atlanta, GA is only $79. For a starting price of $89, you can purchase a ticket to Varadero, a town in Cuba or to cities like Havana and Santa Clara from Ft. Lauderdale, FL. And for flights to San Juan, Puerto Rico from states like Maryland, Florida, New York, New Jersey and Orlando prices start as low as $108 and go as high as $148.

International fares to international destinations are blacked out Sep. 1-2 and Nov. 18-20, 2017 and sale fares from international destinations are blacked out Sept. 4-6 and Nov. 25-28, 2017. Domestic travel is not valid on Fridays and Sundays and international travel is only valid on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. To learn more about their terms and conditions visit the Southwest website.
Southwest is well known for these blowout sales as it has been doing it every June and October for the past several years. One sale from 2015, became so much popular that the website crashed, prompting Southwest to extend the sale for an additional 24 hours. During last year’s sale, website traffic more than doubled, peaking at 2.94 million visits on the second day, according to a SimilarWeb Digital Insights.
For those familiar with Southwest’s previous fare sales should be warned that the availability of Southwest’s cheapest fares appears to be somewhat more limited than in past sales, USA TODAY reported.
Southwest uses the sales to attract customers during what is some of the slowest travel periods of the year, according to USA Today. The fall sale covers travel from November to early February but excludes busy holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years. The summer sale also covers a similar slow period, USA Today said. It includes flights from the end of summer when vacation season ends through mid-December with the exception of Thanksgiving.
The sale began Tuesday morning and will end Thursday, June 8 at 11:59 p.m. So if you want to take advantage of these prices act fast.
