Summer Styles: 3 Dresses You Have to Try

Summer style brings a whole new wave of trends to the mix. No more worrying about ruining your look with a bulky coat. With warmer weather, we’re free to show off our legs, prance around in gladiator sandals, and enjoy the sun. Try to avoid dresses that cling to you because as the temperatures rise, this could cause discomfort while you’re out in the heat.

Maxi Dress:

This is one of the few times you can get away with a dress that’s down to your ankles. Walk along the sand in this long flowing dress. They come in solids and patterns and are best worn during the summer. For something a little sexier, you can find them with a slit up the leg or intricate cut outs in the back. You’ll never have to worry about holding this dress down for the wind.

Despite these dresses being “maxi”, they also have shorter ones that end around your thigh with sheer lace that covers the rest of your legs. As maxi dresses grow in popularity, they have become less constrained to a certain type of style.

These dresses don’t exclusively hang limply off your body, nor do they only have thin straps for sleeves. Some of these dresses have adjusted to having elastic wastes and long flowing ¾ sleeves. If you’re worried that you might be too short to pull this dress off without drowning in it, don’t fret. A pair of cork wedges will elongate your legs and complete your look.

Floral Print:

Florals? For Spring? Groundbreaking. Miranda Priestly sarcastically uttered these words back in 2006 because the  print is here to stay. It’s not a style that goes away right after summer because it’s the perfect look for all of the warmer months. There are so many varieties of floral patterns and colors that it’s hard to figure out where to start.

To begin, choose the colors that suit you best.  Whether it’s blue and white, pink and yellow, or green and purple, once you know what you look great in, it will help narrow down your search. From here you can decide whether the type of dress you look for has the skater flare at the bottom, cinches at your waist, or is your basic A-line dress.

Shorter dresses allow you get away with low heeled shoes. Try a pair of solid colored ankle strap flats.

Little White Dress:

White isn’t just for shorts and crop tops this summer. It is a great color for summer because it absorbs the least amount of heat in the sun, whereas black absorbs all of the heat and reflects none of it off.

Pops of color are a fun way to bring flair to this look. If you’ve always wondered how to incorporate pastel colors into your wardrobe, now is the time. If you’re unsure of what type of structure you want, scoop necks and spaghetti straps are the way to go. The scoop neck is becoming increasingly popular while it allows you to show your chest, yet covers enough that it can be worn for any occasion.

For something sexier, try an open back dress with designs made from the straps of your dress. Don’t be afraid to be adventurous this summer, and try out some new styles.
