Indianapolis officers have arrested a teenage boy for the murder of 28-year-old Amanda Blackburn earlier this month on November 10.
18-year-old Larry Taylor faces a preliminary charge of murder after the shooting causing the death of Blackburn. The incident is understood to be a burglary gone wrong. When Blackburn was killed, her 1-year-old child was in the house. Her husband, Davey Blackburn, found his severely injured wife on the floor when he got home from the gym that morning.
Blackburn was 12 weeks pregnant when she died.
“My wife was such a beautiful, gracious, loving woman of God,” Pastor Davey Blackburn said. “I have not only lost my ministry partner and support but also my very best friend. There is no way to prepare yourself for circumstances like these.”
Amanda Blackburn was shot in the head during the burglary. When her husband arrived home, she was taken to the University Methodist Hospital. Two days after the shooting, Amanda died from her injuries.
“We are thankful to out federal, state and local partnerships that aided in the apprehension of the suspects in this terrible and senseless crime. All victims of criminal homicides deserve closure,” Police Chief Rick Hite said in a statement. “As a community we must send a collective message that violence is not an option.”
As of now Indianapolis police has at least one other suspect in custody. The suspect is being held on unrelated charges after being questioned by Indianapolis detectives.
“I hold firm to the belief that God is still good, that he takes our tragedy and turns it into triumph, and that the best truly is yet to come,” Davey Blackburn said. He also stated that he will be focusing on his son and grieve for his deceased wife, all while staying optimistic.
