Healthy Day News has reported that about one- quarter of teens in the U.S experiment with “dripping”, when they smoke e-cigarettes. “Dripping” is a new vaping method that produces thicker clouds of vapors, according to researchers.
“Dripping” mainly consists of placing a drop of e-liquid onto the exposed heating coil of an e-cigarette or atomizer, directly. Then, after they immediately inhale the cloud of vapor that is produced, said a professor of psychiatry at Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, Conn., Suchitra Krishnan-Sarin.
“They say it makes the flavors taste better and gives you a stronger hit,” Krishnan-Sarin said.
She learned this information by speaking with teenagers. She was taking a survey on the e-cigarette usage on high school grounds and decided to ask about that. The survey stated that 26% of high school students have tried dripping at least one time, at 8 schools in Connecticut. Krishnan-Sarin was rather prepared to be shocked by this information: “We didn’t know what we would find, because we only had anecdotal evidence based on what kids were telling us.”
Experts are afraid that this can turn into a serious problem for teenagers. They believe that “dripping” could possibly expose users to high levels of toxins and carcinogens created when the e-cigarette has been vaporized, highly.
“The levels of some chemicals like formaldehyde and other aldehydes, which are known carcinogens, are higher with direct dripping than with conventional e-cigarette use,” Krishnan-Sarin said.
Moreover, Doctor Karen Wilson, chief of general pediatrics for Mount Sinai Health System in New York City, believes that a high exposure to nicotine produced by dripping can rupture developing brains of teenagers.
So far, 1 out of 4 users has dripped. More than likely this trend will not go away anytime soon. Researchers are lead to believe that teens will try to compete in vape competitions.
Instructional videos on dripping can be found on the internet. In addition, users can change their e- cigs for dripping. They could also quite possibly buy atomizers built for dripping.
Precautions have ready been taken to resolve this issue, by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
