The electric car manufacturer, Tesla, is definitely known for taking the norms of the automotive industry and flipping them on their head. The Californian automaker has taken this a step further by deciding to sell its cars at a Nordstroms in Los Angeles.
If one were to travel to the men’s department in the Nordstroms located in the Grove, they will find a Tesla boutique that opened earlier this week, containing a model X. Additionally, there will be Tesla representatives to answer any questions prospective buyers might have and to schedule test drives in the parking lot right outside.
Due to Tesla being a very unconventional auto manufacturer, it makes sense that they would sell their cars in fairly unconventional ways. With many individuals and start-up companies trying to figure out ways to bypass the traditional dealership experience, industry insiders are stating this was a very smart decision on Tesla’s part.
The current situation is mutually beneficial for both companies. Nordstrom has recently suffered a notable sales loss of approximately 7.7-percent. With the addition of the Tesla boutique, it is expected that foot traffic will increase which usually accompanies an increase in sales. Tesla is expected to benefit from reaching a more diverse audience such as people not in the market for a car at the time, or individuals who had not previously considered the Tesla brand as an option.
Regardless of how well either company does, it’s really the customers that win in this situation. The ability to shop for a car outside of the intense, commission hungry, dealership environment. Being able to get your clothes and car shopping done in one place can’t be beaten.
