Break out the pageant dresses and penguin suits, spring is here. Truth be told, fashion and shopping in this century has definitely freed up the way we look at wedding and prom season, but that’s not necessarily viewed as beneficial. With more choices of styles and ways to obtain them, there are inevitably additional opinions and possibly even more unsatisfied guests, probing the struggle for finding a gown that aligns with everything from the occasion to the location and the many factors of the individual. However, this apparent burden could be approached opportunistically.
Fun has no age limit, so finding a dress to feel amazing in shouldn’t either, especially when part of the excitement evening gown occasions is the chance to dress up. Prom is part of a High School girl’s coming of age story, and practically has no ceiling on having fun with color and design style. Spring and summer call for bright hues with various cuts and accents. Plenty of times, teenagers take inspiration from Disney movies and want a ball gown, from their favorite magazines and want to standout and go with a knee length dress or even from their favorite movie actresses or singers. At this age everyone and everything is an inspiration. This can be the best of times to enjoy dressing up, so long as the influence is not deriving solely from the Miley Cyrus of modern day.
Categorizing body types is basically impossible. So any diagram that illustrates or suggests what falls under what body standards should be thrown out or only mildly considered but not a deciding factor when choosing an evening gown. Nothing and no one can or should tell you what will look good on you. Pick-out what you’ve envisioned wearing for that particular evening. Try it on. There is no better way to knowing what you like, what feels comfortable and what will give you confidence than actually having the dress on. A mannequin or hanger can only do so much. The real-life effect of trying on the dress is even the most time-saving activity for finding the perfect one, either you’ll fall in love or decide its on to the next. Just make sure whatever it is, you feel beautiful.
Consider where the event will be held. If the location is outdoors for at least part of the time or in a location that is warm –like an old church on an island- keep in mind how you deal with hot temperatures and sweat. Maybe aim for short-sleeves or better yet no sleeves. Possibly your long gown would be better off inches above the ground. More often than not a black-tie event is held indoors and if the location is excessively warm hopefully under air conditioning.
Keep culture in mind. If the event is religious or held in a religious region, respectful attire is definitely a prerequisite when shopping for a dress. Make sure you know some of the background of the culture and the hosts, so as to dress accordingly. This may limit what you can choose to wear, nonetheless the occasion may provide for a new enlightening and festive experience.
Overall, personality should never be ignored. On a daily basis we usually try to wear what most resembles who we are and an evening dress should not be any different. Whether that be the rocker chick, the southern belle, the glamour queen or bohemian girl, a mix of these or even none of these, there is a dress out there to make each girl or woman feel beautiful and ready to enjoy the night. The search does not have to be a torture of decisions but instead an exhilarating pre-party of sorts.
