Tina Fey has been on David Letterman’s show 20 times. Over the time she is always dressed very nice in a fancy dress. After Letterman addresses that she just looks lovely in the dress she is wearing she decides to tell him that it was his gift.
Fey says that she only dresses up for Lettermen out of respect for his work and since his leaving, this will be the last time she will dress super fancy for a talk show.
Fey says that Jimmy is “like a brother” and it would be weird if she wore a fancy dress for him. Also, that she won’t put on the crazy Spanx for James Corden.
Fey then gets up and with the help of Lettermen she takes off her dress. She then hands it over to Letterman.
Underneath the dress is an array of Spanx that say “Bye Dave!” on the front and “#lastdressever” on the back. Lettermen is sort of speechless but is grateful for the gift repaying her by giving her a kiss on the hand at the end of the interview.
Fey stood proudly in her contraption as the crowd cheered and Lettermen had a good laugh. Fey has it right, Spanx can be for those fancy enough for Met Galas and for royalty.
She’s going to feel so liberated without any fancy dress for talk shows.
